How much do tennis lessons cost in San Diego?

Short answer: in San Diego County, a one-hour private lesson with an experienced, certified coach typically costs $100 to $150. Semi-private and group formats bring the per-person price down to roughly $40 to $100.
Prices vary a lot, so here is what actually drives the number and how to decide what is worth paying for.
Typical price ranges
- Private lesson (1 player, 1 hour): about $100 to $150 with a certified coach. Newer or uncertified instructors may charge less.
- Semi-private (2 players): usually $60 to $100 per person per hour.
- Group clinic (3 to 6 players): about $40 to $100 per person, depending on length and age group.
- Packs: most coaches discount a block of 4 or more lessons.
What changes the price
1. The coach's experience and certification
A coach certified by the PTR (Professional Tennis Registry) or USPTA has been tested on teaching method, not only playing ability. Years matter too. A coach who has run junior programs and coached tournament players can spot the cause of a problem faster, which means fewer lessons spent on trial and error.
2. Whose court it is
If the coach travels to your club, HOA or public park, expect a travel premium. Some clubs also add a court or guest fee. Lessons on the coach's own court are often cheaper and you never wait for a free court.
3. Format
Private lessons give you every ball. Semi-private lessons with a friend or family member at a similar level cost less per person and add a hitting partner. Group clinics are the best value for drilling and match play, less so for rebuilding a stroke.
4. Session length
Most private lessons are 60 minutes. Adult clinics often run 90 minutes. Kids under 10 usually do best with 45 to 60 minutes.

How to get more from every lesson
- Book weekly. Skills stick when lessons are close together. A 4-week pack usually costs less than four single lessons.
- Practice once between lessons. Even 30 minutes against a wall or with a friend doubles what you keep.
- Mix formats. One private lesson to fix technique plus one clinic to use it in live points is a strong, affordable combination.
- Tell the coach your goal. "Win more league matches" and "rally with my kids" lead to very different lessons.
